The HSE Strikes Back!
Star Wars Film Producers Prosecuted
A film
production company is to be prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive for an incident in which the actor
Harrison Ford was injured during filming of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
Ford,
reprising his role as Han Solo for the seventh film in the Star Wars saga, suffered a broken leg whilst filming at
studios outside London on 12 June 2014. The actor required hospital treatment and surgery as a result of the
incident. Production was delayed for 8 weeks due to Ford's absence.
A large
metal, hydraulically-controlled door had been constructed to serve as the door of the character's ship, the
Millennium Falcon. It is alleged the door closed with the actor stood nearby, striking him and causing a fall
resulting in the injury.
The HSE have
confirmed the comp any is to be prosecuted in respect of four health and safety offences. The hearing of the
case has been adjourned to High Wycombe Magistrates' Court and we await further developments.
Move over
